    Book details

"In the winter of 1982, long before she became the watercolor artist and author we know today, Susan Branch, 34-years-old and heartbroken from the sudden and unexpected end of her marriage in California, "ran away from home" to the Island of Martha's Vineyard hoping to gain perspective. It was meant to be temporary, a three-month time-out from the daily grind of being broken up and miserable, but within days of her arrival, alone and not quite in her right mind, Susan "accidentally" bought a tiny one-bedroom cottage in the woods - which is how she discovered she was moving 3,000 miles away from everyone and everything she had known and loved. Funny, observant, touching, and addictive (you are not going to want this book to end), based on the diaries she has kept all her life, Susan Branch relates her inspirational tale of lost love and self discovery, her search for roots, purpose, and destiny with laugh-out-loud honesty. A road map for overcoming loss, following your heart, and making dreams come true, charmingly hand-lettered and watercolored in Susan's inimitable style, there are diary excerpts, recipes, and hundreds of photographs."--Provided by

Reading Martha's Vineyard - Isle of Dreams by Susan Branch is like eating rhubarb crisp. It is savory, sweet, and delicious. This visually appealing book is beautifully illustrated with Branch's own water-colored illustrations and photos of animals and nature. She writes: "I loved the quiet, the birds, the snowfall, and lighting candles in the purple twilight." Martha's Vineyard is based on her diary of starting a new life, but also includes dialogue, so you feel like you are there, in the story. It includes servings of inspiring quotes and home-made recipes for goodies such as carrot cake and marshmallows. My favorite quote: "So, I started reading autobiographies, biographies and diaries of people I admired to learn how they had overcome obstacles, discovered who they were, moved ahead, and made something of their lives." -- Susan BranchI highly recommend Martha's Vineyard - Isle of Dreams to anyone who would like to read something refreshing and delightful, as this book is too beautiful not to read.

I loved this book, I have purchased all 3 of them, and since this was the last one issued, I am now re-reading the first one which was a prequel. I love Susan's way of writing, you are there with her. I also have been many times to all the areas she writes about in California and her writing brings back so many happy memories. Since I am now a resident of California but being British I could travel with her on her first book in this series, especially in Yorkshire and the Cotswolds. I have given these books to many relatives one who is my Sister-in-Law from California and now resides in England. The Isle of Dreams we were reading at the same time and spent many message chats referring to where we were in her book and both hated when we reached the end of it.

Sweet Susan Branch! This book shares the struggles when she moved to Martha's Vineyard! She takes the reader along on her journey; sometimes it's sad, but it's always interesting and the happy ending is certainly worth the wait!

I loved this book. I cried at the end. I have now read her three books. I hope there will be more.

Such a delight. I tried to make it last but read it all in a weekend. Beautifully written and illustrated. I have dipped back into it many a time.

I saw this book whilst we were visiting Martha's Vineyard and just had to have it as it was so beautiful. I have now read it along with the fairy tale girl and a fine romance. It has to be my favourite of the 3 but that is only because I love the island.....I cant wait for Susan's next book.....
