The premise of this was great but right from the off I was totally confused about what was going on. It jumps about all over the place and never really allows you to engage with the characters. I am now 50% of the way through and I'm no clearer as to what is going on. The POV writing does not work well at all and one of the characters when his chapter comes up I just groan as I have no idea what relevance it has to the story. Maybe it's a set up to the 2nd book but I am bored with this and can't even finish it. Very rare I do that.I love fantasy books and love dragons and was Hoping this would be more about them but all I've got is a weird magic system using their blood.Too long, too boring and not enough dragons..... now to find something else to read that will keep me engaged to the end!

It took me a few pages to get used to his style of writing, however, once I worked out who was who I couldn't put it down. Maps on kindles don't work well, luckily his web site put that right.

Good read was difficult to get into at the get go, when finally understood his writing style an character's started to enjoy it. His blood song trilogy was a better saga to dive into.

As his other books a really gripping story that you just don't want to end. It's also great as a stand alone book but I look forward to finding out what happens next.

Easy to read and follow with a cast of strong characters. Would recommend to most readers. Quite long, but enjoyable.

Better than I expected - more Jules Verne/Steampunk than his previous novels - and all the better for it.

I tried to listen to this as an audio book but couldn't get through it, but knew I'd like it.As soon as I started reading it I was hooked. Great first book in a trilogy and I'll definitely be reading the rest. Interesting setting, could be better than his last trilogy!

This has held my attention and entertained me....no mean task as I grow more demanding with age
