As a previous reviewer suggested, this is not the book to buy if you are new to Indesign - it reads more like a feature reference work. The organisation is poor and the author discusses advanced features like libraries before there is any mention of how to create your first document using the program. If you want a primer, the Indesign volume from the Peachpit Classroom in a Book series beats this one hands down.

This book was fine but would have preferred a few more diagrams. I actually found that typing questions into google was more immediate and got replies with more diagrammatical explanations which for a 'dummy' was very useful.

As an InDesign newby, I found this book a poor read....definitely for people with experience of InDesign or similar software.

InDesign CS5 BibleI'm not a proficient Indesign user so I like to have a book I can refer to. I'd bought the CS4 Bible and having updated to Indesign CS5 I bought this one. I know it's usual for software books to be updated with each new release of the application, rather than be comprehensively re-written from scratch, but this book seems to have been written/published in a hurry. The 8-page colour insert highlighted on the front cover is not in the book: it was in the CS4 Bible so I've kept the insert from that*, albeit it could be obsolete I don't know, and the author's website (to which he refers as a resource) could do with some tlc.Otherwise the content and style is not dissimilar from the CS4 Bible. Helpful and informative. The quality of the printing and the paper used has a sort of photocopy look about it sometimes. On balance I imagine it's a well-written book, just a shame it's a poor quality product.* which means I cannot resell it as I usually do via Amazon.

I must be a real dummy because I still don't get it although I will keep persevering. I am sure it is a good book and a real help for people of the IT persuasion but that is just not me I am afraid.

As a guide the InDesign CS5 Bible is OK, but could be much simpler. The 'Rest of the World' must tolerate the American spelling as their interpretation of English, but not their long-winded attempts to explain everything! There has always been far too much unnecessary and irrelevant waffle. Keep it simple.

Very clearly unravels an insanely complicated software. Would have liked more on Print related settings but this I suppose is for beginners. So full stars.
