    Book details

Lose weight, lower cholesterol, significantly reduce the risk of disease, and become physically fit--in just 4 weeks.

Professional athlete-turned-firefighter Rip Esselstyn is used to responding to emergencies. So, when he learned that some of his fellow Engine 2 firefighters in Austin, TX, were in dire physical condition-several had dangerously high cholesterol levels (the highest was 344!)-he sprang into action and created a life-saving plan for the firehouse. By following Rip's program, everyone lost weight (some more than 20 lbs.), lowered their cholesterol (Mr. 344's dropped to 196), and improved their overall health. Now, Rip outlines his proven plan in this book. With Rip as your expert coach and motivator, you'll transform your body and lifestyle in a month. His plant-powered eating plan is based on a diet of whole foods, including whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and seeds. This invaluable guide features: **Dozens of easy, mouthwatering recipes-from pancakes to pizza, Tex-Mex favorites to knockout chocolate desserts-that will keep you looking forward to every bite **Pantry-stocking tips will take the panic out of inevitable cravings and on-the-fly meals **Guidelines on menu choices that will allow you to eat out, wherever and whenever you want **Rip's simple, firefighter-inspired exercise program that will boost your metabolism and melt your fat away.

Medically approved, easy-to-follow, and amazingly effective, this diet is designed for anyone who wants to make heroic strides in his or her health, weight, and well-being-all without heroic effort.

Interesting book. Full of compelling evidence and easily understood. Recipes are amazing as I've tried a few. Would recommend to anyone looking to follow this way of eating.

Bought this book last September and after reading it became a vegetarian immediately. It has taken until now ( and more research) to become a vegan but I am so happy with my diet now because of this. I feel so much healthier, more energetic and I owe Rip Esselstyn many, many thanks. This is one book I can't recommend highly enough.

Would highly recommend this book to anyone, even meat eaters, the recipes are well thought out and idiot proof! Every recipe has gone right. We are on week 2 of being vegan. Something I have wanted to achieve for a long time, but found it difficult to cook vegan food with enough flavour, so alway went back to a vegetarian diet. However this book is truly amazing, I love the recipes and don't feel I am missing out on anything and feel great for it! More people need to own this book!

A fantastic book. Unlike some commenters, I loved the references to Rip's fire station and found these added interest to the already interesting subject of a plant-strong diet for optimal health. Brilliant!

Cannot rate this highly enough if you take your health seriously. Lots of research in the book and exercises and recipes. It helped me to know why I was moving Tia plant based diet and what to do. Very informative and motivating.

A wonderful book which should be read by all those seriously interested in improving their health and avoiding debilitating conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. It dispels the myths that meat, fish and dairy are 'good' for us and explains the virtues and life-saving principles of a plant-based diet and life-style. Packed with vital information and tasty recipes, this book is a must for all health conscious individuals.

I found this a really good book and made a lot of fantastic points for health, wellbeing and weight loss. I'm now reading his father's book which is also great. The only thing I would say would be helpful for a book that does sell outside the US is more input for other countries. He talks about certain kinds of breads for example that are ok per this book, but we don't have that brand here and it takes a little detective work to find out what type of bread that is, what it's ingredients are and what the UK equivalent might be.A simple solution would be a explanation of what style of food it is when mentioned to make it easier to find outside the US.Also the recipes were very much geared to Texas likes and didn't really take in to account a more international palette and it would have been nice if a healthy chef had consulted on that side of things to give some other ideas. However - that doesn't change the principals of the book that a plant-based eating style is incredibly healthy for the body and that eating junk and processed foods plus too much animal foods takes a toll on our health.Once you have the guiding principals it's not hard to look online (such as Pinterest) for inspiration for whole food plant based recipes, or raw vegan or however you choose to apply the information to your own diet.
