Before queenship and Camelot, Guinevere was a priestess of Avalon. She loved another before Arthur, a warrior who would one day betray her.In the war-torn world of late fifth century Britain, young Guinevere faces a choice: stay with her family to defend her home at Northgallis from the Irish, or go to Avalon to seek help for the horrific visions that haunt her. The Sight calls her to Avalon, where she meets Morgan, a woman of questionable parentage who is destined to become her rival. As Guinevere matures to womanhood, she gains the powers of a priestess, and falls in love with a man who will be both her deepest love and her greatest mistake.Just when Guinevere is able to envision a future in Avalon, tragedy forces her back home, into a world she barely recognizes, one in which her pagan faith, outspokenness, and proficiency in the magical and military arts are liabilities. When a chance reunion with her lover leads to disaster, she is cast out of Northgallis and into an uncertain future. As a new High King comes to power, Guinevere must navigate a world of political intrigue where unmarried women are valuable commodities and seemingly innocent actions can have life-altering consequences. You may think you know the story of Guinevere, but you’ve never heard it like this: in her own words. Listen and you will hear the true story of Camelot and its queen.Fans of Arthurian legend and the Mists of Avalon will love Daughter of Destiny, the first book in a historical fantasy trilogy that gives Guinevere back her voice and traces her life from an uncertain eleven year old girl to a wise queen in her fifth decade of life.

This is a brilliant book and one that any King Arthur fan MUST read! Nicole has managed to give substance to a character that is usually only mentioned in connection with Camelot's downfall. In this book, Guinevere is flawed and, at times, vulnerable but that only makes her all the more likeable in my opinion. It was great to see the appearance of so many other characters from Arthurian legend (Isolde, Elaine, Morgan to name a few) and refreshing to see the female viewpoint of such a well known legend. Nicole built the world of Avalon so well, I almost believed I was there! If you are a fan of King Arthur and strong heroines, give this book try - you won't regret it!

A brilliant start to a new series.I loved the different take on the usual Arthurian legends, telling the tale from Guinevere's viewpoint really drew you in from the first few pages. The story flowed beautifully and really provided the reader with an understanding into how Guinevere grew to be such an important character in folk lore. I particularly liked the role of Morgan and the way she interacts with Guinevere.I will be on the look out for the next two books in this series to see how the characters develop futher. A truely enjoyable read.I was given a digital copy of this book free in return for an honest unbiased review.

I do not know much about the Arthurian legends, aside from the obvious, but I thoroughly enjoyed Daughter of Destiny. Guinevere’s character was much more developed than what is known about her, and it makes her more human in a way. The reader can see what she was like before becoming Arthur’s wife. I was intrigued by the role of Morgan, I hope her character comes into play more in the future books of the series. A quick read, I would be more likely to class this as historical fantasy than historical fiction, but that doesn’t diminish the style and skill of this author in any way. A wonderful novel for anyone who enjoys the Arthurian legends.
