The original title of the book: No Such Thing as Home

Dark times, the north of Europe is harried and pillaged by sea borne raiders. Finn’s hopes of becoming a fisherman are dashed when his grandmother arranges for him to take over the dreary post of night-watchman on the cliffs overlooking the village. Love leads to the dereliction of his duty, the village is betrayed and as a result he is cast out. It becomes clear that his grandmother is not quite who she appears to be and that there is a very good reason that Finn has never really fit in. This tale of love and loss is inspired by traditional Celtic and Norse folk tales.

Ciaron Fox is married and lives in the north of Scotland with his wife, daughter, two dogs and one annoying cat (the only other male in the household). Ciaron's debut Fantasy Novel "No Such Thing as Home" started life as a short story he intended to share with his daughter Charlotte at bedtime. When he's not working, ferrying his daughter to drama/dance/singing classes or putting off D.I.Y. he manages to fit in a little writing. He is currently working on something a little darker and more contemporary which he hopes to have finished sometime soon.

I read this book on the recommendation of a friend. The genre of this book is not my normal type to read, but I thought, why not. Glad I did. Great characters, great storyline which at times was a compelling page-turner, and a great twist at the end. I now eagerly await the next novel from this author. Such a good balance between detail and movement of the story. Fantastic debut.

This is a beautifully written novel. The narrative goes to unexpected places while being fully grounded in human nature. The story is rich in description, both in terms of the physical environment and the nature and emotions of the characters. Indeed, characters have been developed with considerable depth. If you enjoy a great story, read this book.
