The second Inspector Rebus novel from 'Britain's No.1 crime writer' DAILY MIRROR.

A junkie lies dead in an Edinburgh squat, spreadeagled, cross-like on the floor, between two burned-down candles, a five-pointed star daubed on the wall above.

Just another dead addict - until John Rebus begins to chip away at the indifference, treachery, deceit and sleaze that lurks behind the facade of the Edinburgh familiar to tourists.

Only Rebus seems to care about a death which looks more like a murder every day, about a seductive danger he can almost taste, appealing to the darkest corners of his mind...

"Ian Rankin is up there among the best crime novelists at work today." - Michael Connelly "A superior series." - The New York Times Book Review "Ian Rankin, you cannot go wrong." - The Boston Globe "A novelist of great scope, depth, and power." - Jonathan Kellerman

Another amazing read. I think I may have found one of my favourite authors! Easy to read. Very gripping. Would definitely recommend this book.

  • By Eliza-ann on 3 May 2017

Kept twisting and turning, it kept me interested in the story. The ending wasn't what I expected. I will recommend it to my friends.

Early books not upto later high standard. Completists may want to judge it for themselves. Kindle price is too high.
