In the early hours of Christmas Eve, the wife of parliamentary candidate Tom Perry is brutally murdered in an apparent burglary gone wrong.

With the by-election campaign about to start in earnest, and the festive season in full swing, torrential rain brings with it flood warnings on the Somerset Levels.

Suspended on full pay and transferred to the cold case unit, Detective Inspector Nick Dixon is languishing on the sidelines as the investigation into Elizabeth Perry’s murder unravels and the floodwaters rise.

Returning to duty, Dixon is convinced that the answer lies hidden in Tom Perry’s political life, but why was Elizabeth the target and not her husband? The more Dixon uncovers, the further he is from finding the truth…

Dead Level is the fifth novel in Damien Boyd’s addictive DI Nick Dixon Crime Series.

I have read the first six D.I. Nick Dixon books one after the other, Great Books all!Nick Dixon is a very believable character and his location reminds me of holidays spent in Somerset, ‘though I don’t remember any murders! His books are always well researched and the story lines gripping, take my advice? -----------Read them all, you won’t be disappointed!

I discovered the first book in this series in the 99p section where I always look for new authors on the premise that if they are prepared to offer me their first work at a discount I am prepared to make the effort and try their work. I have done this many times and found some very enjoyable books which I would not have tried otherwise. This was one of the better ones I found the characters engaging and a plot that was both different and moved along a good pace with some nice twists and turns along the way.I enjoyed the first book so much that on finishing it I then went on and bought the other 5 in the series at full price and have not been disappointed they all have very different stories but follow on from each other extremely well especially if read in order.I look forward to reading book 7 I hope I do not have long to wait.

Yet again a great read, having just read both books 4 & 5 back to back; again written with twists and turns everywhere, I didn't manage to pick out those responsible but that's proven the quality of writing in hiding the obvious some times.I have just bought book 6....looking forward to new storyline. Keep up great works 😀

A very human, but fast action book. Also very knowledgeable Regarding Type 1 diabetes, I never knew there were two types of insulin and is something I will never forget. This book is as good as any detective novel I have read and I look forward to reading more of them.

I have read the first 4 DI Nick Dixon books and this one held my attention from start to finish. He is an excellent writer and his storylines are always interesting. I couldn't put it down and will be starting the next in the series immediately. Another excellent read. Highly recommended.

A beautifully written, gripping murder mystery. Set in an area where this reader lived happily for many years, each journey taken by DI Nick Dixon and Monty was delightfully familiar, which added to my enjoyment, especially as I am also a dog lover. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this engrossing series.
