Damien Boyd definitely knows how to write a story using events and things he knows from life. He went caving and actually used one of the people who helped him in that endeavors name. He uses the knowledge of his father looking at asbestos and the amusing story of a turd in draw. As a solicitor he can draw on extensive experience both his own and of others he knows. He explains police procedures correctly. All this add to Damien Boyd's repertoire and a brilliant story l love the fact he has Dixon liking old classic films and watches again and again, true to life as l know someone like that. Each book has a different story as this one involves military veterans where previous stories have revolved around a school and an old romance and yet though each can be read alone there is a continuing core of themes.....Nick and Jane with Monty the dog as a budding family...the different detectives and police officers. I enjoy Damien Boyd's books so much as soon as l finished book 5 l started Death Sentence so 2 in one night

Having read, and very much enjoyed, the first five books in the series, I have just finished the sixth DI Nick Dixon novel, I can't wait to read the next one. Damien Boyd is an excellent writer and Death Sentence is the best yet. He draws the reader into the story and keeps you enthralled throughout. His writing style is fast paced and the totally absorbing. An excellent read.

I discovered the first book in this series in the 99p section where I always look for new authors on the premise that if they are prepared to offer me their first work at a discount I am prepared to make the effort and try their work. I have done this many times and found some very enjoyable books which I would not have tried otherwise. This was one of the better ones I found the characters engaging and a plot that was both different and moved along a good pace with some nice twists and turns along the way.I enjoyed the first book so much that on finishing it I then went on and bought the other 5 in the series at full price and have not been disappointed they all have very different stories but follow on from each other extremely well especially if read in order.I look forward to reading book 7 I hope I do not have long to wait.

Another good detective book in the DI Nixon crime series. All these books have been good in describing the methods used by the police, and all the cases have been interesting. This will suite speleologists, as some potholing is used in the plot, and in regard to the plot in general I have often wondered why this doesn't happen more often as it does in some other countries.

Yet another " can't put down" book. Very interesting how the author draws upon interesting experiences to develop the plot. From caving to asbestos related illness it was teaching me something even though it was a fiction story. I've got the next one on order can't wait for it to come out in September. Well done for keeping me amused and interested over the last 6 novels

Can't wait for the next adventure. Damien Boyd writes unbelievably about crime, and the law and his detective Nick Dixon is a normal ,pleasant, intelligent chap who unlike many fictional detectives is not foul mouthed or unduly complexes. And he loved dogs. What's not to like!
